Why eight weeks have to pass between sessions

The gap between laser removal sessions should be at least 8 weeks. That is not a number chosen to suit the appointment book — it is the time the body needs. Pigment leaves gradually, through the work of the immune system and the skin’s own renewal cycles.

The laser does not remove the pigment. The body does

The laser breaks the pigment into small particles, and there its job ends. The rest is done by the immune system, which carries the broken-up pigment out of the skin. That is why the pace depends on the body rather than on the power of the device, and why nobody can honestly promise an exact number of sessions in advance.

Why two months in particular

One full cycle of skin regeneration takes about 28–30 days. For the body to clear the broken-up pigment, and for the result to be judged objectively, at least two such cycles have to pass. Hence the optimal gap of roughly two months.

  • The body has time to clear the pigment broken up in the last session.
  • The skin has time to regenerate fully.
  • The result of the previous treatment is actually visible, not guessed at.

What happens if you come sooner

An earlier session means the skin has not fully regenerated and the body has not finished responding to the previous pass of the laser. The effectiveness of that previous treatment drops, and the result may be weaker. A shorter gap does not speed the removal up.

What to do in between

In summer, and in any period of strong sunlight, we recommend SPF 50+ on the area of the tattoo. Summer itself does not harm laser removal — the body is at its most active then — but the skin is worth protecting while a series of treatments is under way.

Can the gap be longer than 8 weeks?

Yes. Eight weeks is a minimum, not an expiry date. If the gap stretches for some reason, we simply book the next session.

How many sessions are needed in total?

We cannot guarantee that in advance, because everything depends on the body. Statistically a tattoo comes off in five sessions or more, but we watch how the pigment behaves as we go.
